Police have issued a warning to parents and schools after a series of suspected child snatch attempts in south Manchester and Trafford, including one involving a 13-year-old girl in Timperley.

Police have issued a warning to parents and schools after a series of suspected child snatch attempts in south Manchester and Trafford, including one involving a 13-year-old girl in Timperley.

Patrols have been increased in the area and detectives are attempting to establish whether there is any link between five reported incidents in three days.

On Wednesday at 8.15am, a 13-year-old girl was walking on Riddings Road in Timperley when she was approached by a man in a van.

Shortly after, a man tried to talk to an 11-year-old girl as he drove past her on Swanage Avenue in Brooklands, between Sandilands Primary and Sale High School.

Later the same day, at 4.30pm, an 11-year-old boy was chased by a man on Bideford Drive in Baguley.

Further incidents were reported on Tuesday, when a 14-year-old girl was approached by a man in a car as she walked in Crossacres, and yesterday in Baguley, when a 14-year-old girl was followed by a man on Altrincham Road.

Det Insp Tony Lea said: “We are currently investigating these reports and would ask any parent who believes their child may have been approached to call police as soon as possible.

“At this moment in time, although the descriptions differ, we are looking into the possibility they may be linked and I would urge parents to be vigilant. Each time, the victim has done the right thing by running off and telling their mum or dad.

“Understandably, people will be worried by these reports but I can reassure them we have stepped up patrols in those areas and are determined to find those responsible.”
