Plans revealed for new community hub, medical centre, library and apartments in Timperley

Here’s a first view of the plans for the extensive redevelopment of Timperley Library.

Here’s a first view of the plans for the extensive redevelopment of Timperley Library.

The plans reveal a marked increase in facilities for the site – which fronts on to both Stockport Road and Baker Street – and includes a new smaller library, a community hub, GP surgery, pharmacy and 24 two-bed apartments.

The proposals will be on display at the library on Stockport Road until Christmas Eve, giving anyone a chance to have their say.

Representatives of the developers Citybranch, the Clinical Commissioning Group and the ouncil will be available to discuss the plans in more detail today between 5pm and 7pm and also on Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.

The site currently houses Timperley Library and 125 public parking spaces to the rear of the library.

The proposals would see a new community hub built on the site to feature community medical facilities on the ground floor – including a pharmacy and eight consultant rooms – and a smaller library facility and an additional two community rooms located on the first floor.

There’s also a second floor space which the plans say provides “potential expansion space for future companies”.

Part of the current car park would then be built on to accommodate a new “luxury” 24-apartment block and gardens.

The plans would therefore mean that the current allocation of 125 parking spaces would be reduced to 77, although there would be a further 24 private spaces for apartment residents and 16 for users of the medical practice.

The proposed changes to the library come after the council revealed earlier this year how cut-backs were forcing it to rethink the provision of library services in Altrincham.

As well as Timperley, Altrincham library will be relocating to a smaller space at the old hospital, and Hale’s library services will be moving to a new purpose-built hub on the bowling green.

Citybranch is the development company behind many of the new schemes in Altrincham, including the new hospital and Hale Barns Square.
