Work on a new £18million residential development in Altrincham is set to begin in July after Trafford Council approved the plans for the former YWCA site.

Alexandra House will be located on the corner of Ashley Road and St John’s Road, and will be developed by Real Estate Investment Partnerships Ltd. The current site has been derelict for several years.

It will comprise 40 apartments and townhouses and will include a mixture of one, two and three-bed single, duplex and triplex apartments and six-one bed mews houses.

Sizes of the apartments will range from 430 sq ft for a one-bed townhouse to a 1,289 sq ft three-bed penthouse. There will also be ground-level and underground parking for 86 cars, landscaped communal gardens and croquet lawn. The build, based on designs by architects Ollier Smurthwaite, is expected to take around 12 months.

Stephen Slater, chief executive officer of Real Estate Investment Partnerships Ltd, said: “We’re thrilled to have passed the planning stages of this development and are moving ahead with turning this public eyesore into a residential development worthy of its premium location.

“Getting on site and turning this corner of Bowdon around is our next priority. We’re committed to ensuring that the building complements the local environment whilst putting its own stamp on the area, and have been working with Trafford Council for over a year to achieve this.”
