Slug & Lettuce, a fixture on Stamford New Road in Altrincham since 2001, is to close down.
The bar and restaurant is to shut for good on Wednesday September 13th, with 15 jobs affected.
It’s understood the Stonegate Pub Company-owned brand – known to be not one of its best performing bars – has been abruptly given its notice by the building’s landlord.
There are no details yet about what might be replacing it.
Most of the 15 staff at the Slug – who were only told about the bar’s fate this week – will be relocated to other outlets within the Stonegate group, which locally include the Navigation Hotel in Altrincham and other Slug & Lettuces in Sale, Didsbury and Wilmslow.
Altrincham’s Slug & Lettuce has been a stalwart of Stamford New Road during a fairly troubled time for the street, largely due to the high number of vacant units and a protracted programme of improvements.
However, the improvement works have now been concluded and a spate of new businesses have moved in, including Gran T’s, Two Brothers, The Contemporary Art Gallery and Eat Kaizen.
