A 33-year-old man has been convicted of the murder of a former Altrincham restaurant boss.
Vincenzo Tavano (above), 33, of Park Lane, Poynton, has been jailed for life at Manchester Crown Square Court today with a minimum term of 17 years after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
Giorgio Roncari, a 61-year-old Italian, was discovered at his two-bedroom flat in Salford on April 17.
Just over a week later, Tavano was arrested on suspicion of Giorgio’s murder and despite answering no comment to questions in his police interviews, then admitted his involvement.
The court heard he placed a plastic bag over the head of Roncari – a former director of Home bar and restaurant in Little Bollington on the outskirts of Altrincham – before taking cash and bank cards from his lifeless body.
Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe, of GMP’s Major Incident Support Unit, said: “Tavano’s anger fuelled his actions that night, taking a man’s life over a dispute.
“The immoral and opportunist behaviour he displayed after he murdered a man proves there is no place better for him than behind bars.
“Giorgio was a well-liked and popular man in Salford and will be terribly missed. My thoughts remain with his family and friends at this time.”
Roncari was also registered as a director of Sopranos, an Italian restaurant formerly based in King’s Court, between 2005 and 2010. Most recently he had been manager at the now closed Avalanche restaurant in Manchester.
