Bollin Primary School to become an academy

The Bollin Primary School in Bowdon is to become an academy.

The change will see the school become part of the Inspiring Learners Trust, which will include Tyntesfield Primary School, under the headship of Kylie Spark, who will be overseeing education across both sites.

Mrs Spark stepped in as head last March when the previous head, Michelle Brindle, left the school in the wake of its dramatic closure by Trafford Council.

Several teachers were then suspended when a video emerged of them throwing an unauthorised party on school premises, and an Ofsted report subsequently claimed the school was “in turmoil”.

No such drama has occurred during this school year and local MP, Sir Graham Brady, described the school as “flourishing” during a visit in September.

Brian Rigby, chairman of the Interim Executive Board at the Bollin, said: “This is exciting news which I am confident will be welcomed by staff, parents and children.

“Mrs Spark has without question gained everyone’s support. Under her leadership, standards of teaching and learning have certainly risen and importantly the whole school community is delighted at the progress that has been made.”

Jamie Whyte, chairman of The Inspiring Learners Trust, said: “I’m confident that the partnership between Tyntesfield and Bollin Schools will bring new opportunities that will raise standards and allow the staff at both academies to share best practice to benefit every child.”

Mrs Spark said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to develop effective collaboration to benefit all pupils. I am excited about the future for both schools.”

The school will be holding a nursery and reception open morning for September 2018 on Monday 8th January at 9.15am.
