Tributes have been paid to Mark Rae, a former Provost of Altrincham who was found dead outside his flat on Urban Avenue earlier this week.
Police have said they are no longer treating his death as suspicious and it’s been reported he suffered a cardiac arrest.
A well-known and active supporter of Altrincham over many years, Mark served as Provost – the equivalent of a Mayor – on two occasions, from 1998 to 2000 and then again in 2015.
He was a former chairman of the Altrincham Festival Committee and was the Deputy Lord Baron Steward of Dunham Massey and a member of Altrincham Court Leet.
The Court Leed said that Mark, who was in his late 50s and a chef, was a “truly lovely person with a big heart”.
It said in a statement: “Mark epitomised Altrincham in so many ways. He was loved by many and had time for all, a truly lovely person with a big heart who loved Altrincham passionately.”
It added: “RIP Mark – you leave quite a legacy, so many wonderful memories.”
Altrincham Con Club said that its members would “miss him dearly”.

And former Manchester United footballer Norman Whiteside said that “Altrincham will not be the same” after Mark’s passing.
