Swing band, classic cars and a bouncy castle: St Margaret's summer party is back

It will take place on Saturday 18th July.

The team behind last summer's popular VJ Day 80th anniversary commemoration at St Margaret's Church is back with a new community event later this month.

The church on Dunham Road will once again throw open its grounds for a Summer Celebration Day on Saturday 18th July, from 12pm to 6pm, featuring live music, food, drinks and displays.

Last year's event drew more than 300 people, and organisers are hoping for another bumper turnout.

Providing the soundtrack will be the renowned 17-piece swing band The Hootin' Annies, who return following their well-received performance last summer, with contemporary music from soloist Liv Phillips.

Visitors can refuel at a BBQ, a Dunham Massey beer and wine tent, and a traditional tea and cake stall.

The summer event will take place at St Margaret's Church

Elsewhere in the grounds there will be classic car and military displays, the chance to have a go at ringing the church's historic bells, and a bouncy castle for younger visitors.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Trafford will be attending, alongside a number of community groups that provide support and activities for local people, including Altrincham Football Club Community Sports.

The celebrations continue on Sunday 19th July at 11am, when the Mayor will attend a special service recognising those who support the community.

There will also hopefully be an appearance by 103-year-old World War II veteran Bob Booth, from Baguley, who served on the perilous North Atlantic Convoy routes that kept vital shipping lanes open during the war.

Admission on Saturday is £5, with under 12s free. Sunday's service is free to attend and all are welcome.
