A 17-year-old girl has suffered a “substantial” face injury after being bitten by a dog in an Altrincham park last night.

The teenager was bitten by the dog – described as a white dog and similar to a Labrador but crossed with another breed with a small area of ginger fur on its back – at around 9pm on Tuesday evening in Navigation Park.

Greater Manchester Police said the dog was in the company of a white male aged around 70 years old.

A statement from GMP Trafford South described him as a “white male, approximately 70 years old, around 5ft 9, unstable on his feet, wearing a long brown leather jacket, with a bobble hat and a walking stick”.

The teenager had been helping the owner put the dog’s harness on when she was bitten by the dog, causing what was described by police as a “substantial injury to her mouth and her cheek” that required hospital treatment.

It’s thought the dog was around two years old, and was also said to be “quite skinny” with a red harness.
