Man arrested in connection with Altrincham Sainsbury's ram-raid

An update on this morning's news.

Police have arrested a man in connection with an attempted robbery at Sainsbury's in Altrincham this morning.

We reported earlier today how there had been an attempted ram-raid at the Lloyd Street store.

Witnesses report seeing a number of youths in the car park at the time, with video showing a purple Nissan X-Trail reversed into the main entrance, colliding with a number of bollards and other obstacles in the process.

Police have now released a statement confirming that a man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods.

The statement reads: "At around 1.15am this morning (23 June), officers received a report of an ongoing burglary at a store on Lloyd Street, Altrincham.

"Officers quickly attended and were able to secure an arrest of a man under suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods.

There is no word yet on the whereabouts of the other individuals who were seen to be involved in the incident.

The store has remained closed for the rest of the day, and there's no confirmation yet about when it will reopen.
