Health and beauty retailer Bodycare has closed its Altrincham store.

Liverpool-based property company Emanuel Oliver, which is marketing the vacant 589 sq ft unit, said that Bodycare’s lease was due to expire next month and it has opted not to renew.

Bodycare is owned by retail group GR & MM Blackledge plc, a Lancashire-based company set up in 1970 by Graham and Margaret Blackledge that began life as a market stall in Skelmersdale.

No official reason has been given for the store’s closure, but in GR & MM Blackledge’s recent annual report, it said it had been “severely affected” by Covid lockdowns, with turnover dropping 38% to £85.7m. At the end of last year the company had 139 stores across the UK.

The vacant property is available to lease at an annual rent of £25,000, or for sale at £325,000.
