The Co-operative Group has submitted plans to open a new convenience store in Altrincham town centre.
The retail giant has filed both a full planning application and a separate application for a new premises licence.
It will be located on George Street in the Stamford Quarter in a unit previously occupied by specialist running retailer Altrincham Runner.
Although the Co-op has other stores in Timperley and Bowdon, this would be its first store in the town centre.
According to planning documents submitted to Trafford Council on June 9th, the retailer is proposing significant alterations to the shop front, including new internally illuminated signage featuring the distinctive Co-op branding.
Prepared by consultancy firm Stantec UK Ltd on behalf of the Co-operative Group, the application emphasises that the proposals are "attractive and of a high-quality design" that will "respect and enhance the character and quality of Altrincham Town Centre".
The proposed hours for the premises licence would be Monday to Sunday, 7am to 11pm, though the store itself would close to the public at 7pm daily.

The Co-op proposal comes as part of the ongoing regeneration of the Stamford Quarter, which has seen significant transformation following a £14m joint acquisition by Bruntwood and Trafford Council in October 2019.
Recent developments include the creation of Foundation, a collaborative workspace and leisure destination featuring a 375 sq m living biophilic wall.
The area is now home to leading independent and national hospitality brands including Nell's Pizza, Yum Cha, Lane7 and Starbucks.
Last year the Stamford Quarter also welcomed new retail openings including Mountain Warehouse and Crew Clothing and the first bricks-and-mortar concept store for online beauty retailer LOOKFANTASTIC.
And it recently announced plans to split the vacant former Poundland unit on George Street into three separate retail spaces,
