The Altrincham branch of Orangetheory Fitness has announced it will close its doors later this month, bringing an end to its presence in the town after more than seven years.
In a shock statement shared on social media, the studio confirmed it will cease operations on April 28th 2026, citing financial pressures.
“We’re incredibly saddened to share that the Orangetheory Altrincham studio will be closing its doors on 28th April 2026.
This hasn’t been an easy decision. Despite the team’s hard work, rising costs and the current economic climate have made it unsustainable to continue.
To every member who walked through our doors, pushed through workouts, and brought the energy every single day, thank you. You made this more than just a studio, you made it a community.
We’re so grateful to have been part of your fitness journey and hope you continue to prioritize your health wherever that takes you and the community you helped grow.”
The studio first opened in late 2018 in Altrincham town centre, located within the Stamford Quarter development. At the time, it marked a significant milestone for the brand, becoming the first Orangetheory site in the UK outside of London.
The launch was part of an ambitious expansion plan for the US-founded franchise, which began in Florida in 2010 and quickly grew to more than 1,000 studios worldwide. The Altrincham site was seen as a key step in bringing the concept to the Midlands and the North of England.
Offering one-hour, coach-led workouts based on heart rate training and the science of Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), Orangetheory quickly built a loyal local following.
No further details have been given about staff arrangements or whether members will be offered transfers to other locations.
The news was met with huge disappointment from members.
Commenting on Instagram, Rachel Broadley said: "This is such sad news. Gutted for all the amazing coaches who are brilliant at what they do, as well as because I absolutely love going."
Another, @webakecakesinhale, said: "Oh no! This is the saddest news! This was the only place that could keep me consistent in working out. I'm so heartbroken."
While Louise Morgan said: "So sad for all of us and especially all the coaches. I have been a member since it opened and loved every single exhausting tough rewarding minute!"
Altrincham's closure will leave Orangetheory with just one remaining UK studio, in Derby.
