Trafford Council has issued a flood warning for areas including Bollington Mill in Dunham Massey as torrential rain from Storm Christoph battered Altrincham for most of Wednesday.
Driving was becoming treacherous across Altrincham with many roads, such as Clay Lane in Timperley, becoming almost impassable.
Rivers in the area were also well above their usual levels, especially the River Bollin and Timperley Brook.
And the council issued the following warning this afternoon: “Some areas of Trafford, mainly Bollington Mill and parts of Stretford in the vicinity of Sale Water Park, are at risk of flooding due to Storm Christoph.
“We’re continuing to work with GMP and the Environment Agency to ensure the safety of residents. People in the affected areas should be prepared should they be asked to leave their home. If it is necessary to evacuate homes, residents will be contacted and given instructions.
“If you have been identified as self-isolating or vulnerable, we will contact you directly with next steps.”
A major incident had been declared by Greater Manchester Police yesterday and flood warnings remain in place for Middle River Mersey catchment, which includes Altrincham, as well as the River Bollin.
