"Magnificent" My Fair Lady to close Altrincham Garrick's 2025/2026 season

It opens on Monday 22th June.

Altrincham Garrick Playhouse is to round off its season with a brand new production of the beloved musical My Fair Lady, opening on Monday 22nd June.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady first reached the Broadway stage in 1956 with Julie Andrews in the lead, before its 1964 film version, starring Audrey Hepburn, went on to win a clutch of Oscars.

With music by Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, it has endured for seven decades as one of musical theatre's best-loved works.

The story centres on Henry Higgins, an arrogant professor of phonetics who wagers that he can pass off Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower seller, as a refined lady simply by teaching her to speak and carry herself like one. As the experiment plays out, both Higgins and Eliza are changed in ways neither anticipated, in a tale that turns on transformation, class and identity.

The Garrick's company of performers, musicians and creatives will bring the show's celebrated score to the Altrincham stage, including the numbers "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "The Rain in Spain" and "Get Me to the Church on Time."

Artistic Director Joseph Meighan said the company had approached the production with a fresh perspective in mind.

"We have built this production with immense love, respect, and a desire to celebrate a woman who demands to be heard," he said.

"So, whether you are hearing these magnificent songs for the very first time or the hundredth, our hope is that you see this story with fresh eyes, whilst still having the nostalgia trip!"

He added: "I have tried, with the fiercely brilliant talent and commitment of the entire company, to not only revive My Fair Lady, but to reclaim it for all those who experience this production."

My Fair Lady runs at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse from Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th June 2026. To book, contact the Box Office on 0161 928 1677 or visit the Garrick website.
