Steph Smith, who manages the Hale, Altrincham and Sale area for Mums in the Know, chooses five great things to do with the kids over the next week.
1. Take part in Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning (Friday September 26th)
Altrincham Garden Centre is participating in the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser, donating 25p from the sale of any hot drink sold on Friday 26 September between 9am until 5pm. If you take your young children along, they can enjoy themselves in the soft play area. You’ll be able to keep an eye on them whilst enjoying a coffee and a cake – all for a good cause too!

2. Inspire your child’s love of reading at the Denzell Book Festival (Saturday September 27th)
The fourth annual Denzell Book Festival will be held at Denzell Gardens on Dunham Road, Bowdon, this Saturday. A wonderful opportunity to inspire our children’s love of books and this year’s theme is ‘Sharing Stories’. There is a fantastic line-up of children’s writers, poets and illustrators along with a host of fun activities taking place throughout the day. Delicious food and drink will be in fine supply courtesy of several local businesses.

3. Take in a show – at the cinema! (Sunday September 28th)
A unique opportunity to enjoy multi-award winning West End musical without the journey to London! Based on the 2000 hit movie, Billy Elliot is a captivating story set in 1980s Northumberland at a time when the miner’s strike was in full swing. After attending boxing training, young Billy stumbles upon a ballet class being held in his local village hall and cannot resist giving it a go. Before long, his hidden talent is unveiled; the young boy is a dancing sensation.
The first performance will be a live showing of the 2pm matinee and at 7pm a recording of the matinee will be shown. One for the older kids as this is rated 12A.

4. Soak up the atmosphere at fabulous Altrincham Market (Sunday September 28th)
If you’ve not yet visited the recently revamped Altrincham Market, you are in for a lovely surprise! Take the family along on Sunday and soak up the atmosphere, I can virtually guarantee it will be buzzing! Market House is a perfect place to enjoy a relaxed, alternative Sunday lunch with fabulous food and live music. It’s very child-friendly (the kids will love it) with lots of space for buggies and plenty of high chairs. There’s even a little drawing area and free WiFi always helps! Be sure to have a meander round the vintage stalls – this Sunday is the Craft and Hand Made Market with lots of lovely jewellery, art and items for your home. 5. Enjoy a free Big Saturday at Manchester Museum (Saturday September 27th)
There’s so much to enjoy with the kids at Manchester Museum – our favourites being the dinosaurs and the Eygptian mummies! Each month, the museum hosts a Big Saturday, aiming to create a day of discovery and exploration for all ages. September’s Big Saturday is inspired by the Museum’s Living Cultures collection, and will take you to the South Pacific. Make your own Hawaiian flower lei to wear as you explore the museum and learn about the fascinating cultures and diverse environments of the Pacific. No need to book for this free event.
