1. Pregnancy Relaxation Sessions at Altrincham Community Space (Saturday January 31st)
If you’re pregnant, you may wish to find out more about the increasingly popular practise of Hypnobirthing. I, for one, am something of an evangelist when it comes to this method – after a fairly ‘challenging’ (!) time when I had my son, second time round was a comparative breeze thanks to it. If you’re not sure if it’s for you, book yourself in for this two and a half hour session.
The session promises to help you learn more about how to actually look forward to the birth of your baby with confidence as well as teaching you two fantastic tools to help keep you calm and relaxed no matter what turn your birthing takes. 2. Intro to Sale FC Girls Rugby (Saturday January 31st)
This Saturday, there’s a fantastic opportunity for girls to find out more about playing rugby. Although not historically associated with girls, rugby is becoming an increasingly popular sport for young ladies and can have a variety of benefits.
Most obviously, it’s a great team game and can be lots of fun but also rugby can be a very effective way to build confidence and communication skills. Heywood Road in Sale is world famous for rugby and the coach of the girls’ team, Jonathan Danby, is inviting all girls year 6 and above (aged 10) along with their parents to come along on Saturday to find out more about they have to offer.
There will be a short talk about the girls’ rugby followed by a Q&A session and then pizza. There will also be a chance to meet the coaches and existing players. The club and bars will be open and the men’s first team are playing Lymm, KO 2.15pm. Training is on Sundays at 10am at the Carrington Training Ground, home of Sale Sharks. Click here for more info.

3. Grand Opening of Bumkins Designer Kids (Saturday January 31st)
Bumkins Designer Kids is holding a ‘grand opening’ on Saturday to showcase its new store on the Moss Lane bridge, located by other lovely recent additions to Altrincham, Vintage Angel and Velo Espresso. This boutique will stock a stunning array of designer clothes for children including Kate Mack, Little Darlings and Mayoral amongst others.
There will be a free glass of bubbly for adults and a special guest visit for the kids. There will also be 10% discount on the new season collection, 50% off some winter stock and a 0-6 months sale rail.

4. The Gruffalo’s Child Trail at Delamere Forest (until February 28th)
“Aha! Oho! A trail in the snow!”… how about driving the half hour or so from Altrincham to Delamere Forest this weekend to follow The Gruffalo’s Child Trail? Venture into the deep dar wook to find the giant Gruffalo sculpture. No booking is required and the trail, which begins at the Delamere Cafe at the main visitor centre, is free to do.
You have to pay for parking at Delamere – we paid £6 for the whole day – and it’s a great idea to pick up an activity pack for £2 from the cafe to get the most of the Trail. The pack includes activity sheets, a colouring sheet, a sticker, pencil and paper bag to collect forest items. There are also activity boards along the way with lots of ideas of activities to do, such as finding things to keep animals warm in winter and looking for signs of minibeasts. Look out for the pictures hung in the trees of the characters, and letters which you have to find along the way to spell out a special word.

5. Snowman Building & Sledging Fun at John Leigh Park
Do you wanna build a snowman?! If you remember the sheer excitement of seeing snow settling on the ground when you were a child, no doubt you will want to make the most of this weekend and get out with the family to enjoy the weather! Sledging was always such great fun when we were kids and the acres of sloping fields at John Leigh Park provide the perfect spot for turbo tobbogans. For some top tips on safe sledging, click here.
