Happy Radio presenter Darren Proctor has been confirmed as the host of Altrincham’s Trooping the Corgis auction event.
Organised by Altrincham BID and Inch Arts, Trooping the Corgis forms part of Altrincham’s celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The parading troop of 50 life-sized corgi sculptures, decorated by artists, will be on guard throughout June in the windows and foyers of businesses around the town.
They’ll then be auctioned off to support the work of Inch Arts in the community – and Proctor will host the auction event on Thursday 30th June at Altrincham Town Hall, which is free to attend.
Trooping the Corgis will include contributions from punk poet Dr John Cooper Clarke, Russ Meehan aka Qubek – best known for his Mancunian Bees murals – and internationally acclaimed contemporary textile and fibre artist Alice Kettle.
Proctor said: “I’m delighted to be hosting the auction and to be part of this exciting event. Happy Radio is a new local radio station for South Manchester and Cheshire which launched in April. Supporting the community and events like this one are really important to us.”
Mandy White, Altrincham’s BID Manager, added: “We’re thrilled that Darren has agreed to host the auction. We would encourage everyone to come and enjoy the town-wide exhibition and then join us at the auction which is a public event. I would also really like to thank our headline sponsor Dandara Living for their support.”
The Trooping the Corgis exhibition runs from Wednesday 1st June to Wednesday 29th June. Guides will be available in the summer issue of Altrincham Today magazine and from pick-up points around the town including Inch Arts, Everyman Cinema, The Unicorn and the Travel Shop at Altrincham Interchange.
