Trafford Council has served a formal notice requiring the owners of the derelict Altrincham North Lodge in West Timperley to either substantially repair the building or demolish it and clear the site within six months.
The former Altrincham North Lodge on Manchester Road, which sits alongside the empty Pelican Inn, has stood empty since 2020 and has become increasingly insecure, prompting repeated concerns from residents and emergency services.
The latest step follows a fire at the site in April and emergency works in May to board up and fence off the buildings. Those measures reduced the immediate risk of unauthorised access but did not resolve the underlying condition of the Lodge.
While the council has seen proposals involving the refurbishment of the 1930s mock Tudor Pelican building, designed by local architect George Wescott, it says there appears little prospect of the Lodge being brought back into use.

Cllr Keleigh Glenton, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Community Safety and Civil Contingencies, said: “Residents have raised concerns about this site for a considerable time and understandably want to see progress.
"The former lodge has suffered years of deterioration and has been the subject of repeated incidents involving trespass, vandalism and fire damage. Although steps have been taken to secure the building, its condition continues to have a negative impact on the local area. We have therefore taken formal action to secure a long-term solution.”
If the required works are not carried out within six months, the council has powers to undertake them itself and recover the costs.
