Pictures: Co-op opens first 'on the go' store in Altrincham

The new-concept store is in the Stamford Quarter.

Co-op has opened a new store in the Stamford Quarter in Altrincham, the first of its new ‘on the go’ stores in the North West.

Located next door to TG Jones (formerly WH Smith), the new-concept store focuses on breakfast, lunch and dinner, from traditional meal deals to the inclusion of a hot food serve-over counter and deli-inspired selections.

Unlike Co-op’s traditional convenience stores, the new store is seeking to meet consumer demand for fast, high quality food-for-now, catering to meals on-the-go throughout the day.

The new store is open seven days a week, 7am-7pm, and after 7pm the store makes the move to online trading only, which includes Co-op’s Irresistible Pizzas cooked and delivered in the community in minutes via Co-op’s quick commerce partners Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Gary Williams, Co-op Director of Store Optimisation, said: “The whole team is excited to launch our new concept store in the Stamford Quarter.

"We continually look for new ways to get closer to our customers and deliver added convenience. Our new store bring together an innovative blend of food-to-go propositions, with freshly prepared products designed to stand out in this vibrant and thriving community.

"Whether in store or online, we cater to ‘on-the-go’ meals throughout the day, at breakfast, lunch and dinner you will find delicious products, quick service, quality and value, and all in a great convenient location.”

The new-concept store is designed for on-the-move shoppers

The opening comes as part of the ongoing regeneration of the Stamford Quarter, which has seen significant transformation following a £14m joint acquisition by Bruntwood and Trafford Council in October 2019.

Recent developments include the creation of Foundation, a collaborative workspace and leisure destination featuring a 375 sq m living biophilic wall.

The area is now home to leading independent and national hospitality brands including Nell's PizzaYum ChaLane7 and Starbucks.

Last year the Stamford Quarter also welcomed new retail openings including Mountain Warehouse, RitualsCrew Clothing and the first bricks-and-mortar concept store for online beauty retailer LOOKFANTASTIC.

And we recently revealed exclusively that Oliver Bonas will be opening in the Stamford Quarter soon.

Chris Houghton, Retail & Leisure Manager at Stamford Quarter co-owners Bruntwood, added: “This opening marks an exciting step for the regeneration of the neighbourhood into a thriving, modern and sustainable area.

"Co-op’s reputation for convenience, quality, and supporting local communities makes it a perfect fit for the Stamford Quarter, and we’re confident it will be a fantastic addition for our visitors and the wider Altrincham community.”

Costa Coffee is also offered in-store

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “This new Co-op store will be a great addition to the Stamford Quarter and will benefit both local residents and visitors to the town.”

Co-op’s first ‘on-the-go’ store launched in Solihull in July, and will be rolled out in high foot-traffic locations across the UK.

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back more than 180 years. Its 6.5m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
